Maybe...
  • All user IDs and passswords, if you haven't done those yet.
  • Preferences and application settings, if they're important enough.
  • Export your browser bookmarks and save them.

Good news: After running sfc/scannow in safe mode from an elevated command prompt (windows key-x) and then running AVG clear it seems that most of the symptoms are gone. This doesn't mean that things could still go South, but for now things appear to be back to normal.

(I still cannot do screen captures though.)

Hooray!
What do you mean screen caps aren't working, though? Like if you hit the print screen button and thwn paste it into an image program (Paint/etc), nothing shows up?
Or did it used to auto-save to a folder when you just hit Print Screen?

I used to do control-print screen and the paste into paint.

edit:

I'll be darned. I ran a keyboard checking website on the key and now it is working!

edit:

Firefox 57 is here and it was ever bit the baka-update that I feared.

edit:

I installed the portable version of 55.0.2, synced, and uninstalled 57.

I've been using Firefox 57 - it's OK so far (with a few quirks, such as weird memory management), but I'm waiting for the new version of NoScript. Using a browser without strict scripting control has reminded me of how much I loathe the added garbage on far too many web sites.

Fun with eyeballs:
Spoiler: show
I had cataract surgery on my left eye a few days ago. The doctor basically swapped out my old lens for a nice, new, flexibile acrylic one - it was quick, and much easier to deal with than most dental work (no stitches!).
But, that means that for about the next two months (until I get the right eye done, and get new glasses), my eyes are rather strangely mismatched. My left eye is somewhat nearsighted, with a reasonably sharp vision range of about 1 foot to 2 1/2 feet, and decent larger-object vision beyond that (I can read a wall clock from 20 feet away), only mild or no astigmatism (I'm not sure yet, because it takes a while for the eye to stabilize), no cataracts, and bright/vivid color vision. My right eye is still extremely nearsighted (with a sharp vision range of 3 to six inches), lots of astigmatism, cataracts, and somewhat muted color vision.
So I'm wearing glasses with no left lens, and a right lens with my existing prescription. I'm getting used to it, but it is kind of weird.
And of course, I get to put 327,000 different kinds of eyedrops in my eye for the next four weeks. XD

I will also have to get that sort of surgery done. Maybe not in the next couple of years, but not too far away.

Probably early January - my opthamologist wants to give the first eye enough time to make sure that there are no complications (which is probably a good thing). My left eye has already improved to the point where I don't even notice much of a difference between it and the right eye most of the time.

The last week has been an emotional roller coaster for me. Last Wednesday I was brought to the ER, I fought going because I really did NOT want to go (I have no insurance), but it seriously saved my life.

I put a sentence behind a spoiler because its kinda graphic?
Spoiler: show
I was on the 9th day of my period when I started to hemorrhage.

I had to have 3 blood transfusions after I was admitted. After I stabilized a bit, the doctors poked around and found a tumor on my cervix that turned out to be stage 1 cervical cancer. Luckily, I have the non-aggressive form of cervical cancer. I was in the hospital for 3 days before I was discharged.

I went back to one of my jobs Sunday, but I took an immediate leave of absence from my overnight job. Thankfully, if I started to feel sick my job let me leave early. I went to see the surgeon I saw in the hospital today and despite not having any insurance they are going to do my surgery next week! It's a good thing I've never wanted children since they are doing a radical hysterectomy, I'm going to still need some radiation afterwards. It's either going to be Tuesday or Thursday - they're going to call me tomorrow to let me know which day.

I'm so unbelievably thankful I have people who care enough about me to drag me to the ER. My mind is still stuck on the what if I hadn't of gone? I've learned my mind can be a dark place sometimes.

I'm going to be out of commission for at least 6 weeks. It kinda sucks, but I have a list of shows to binge watch.

That is scary! It's good that they caught it early, and that it is non-aggressive! I hope that everything goes very, very well!

Holy shit! Glad you managed to get seen, hopefully everything works out and it doesn't get any worse. It's always important to go to the hospital if you (general you) feel that something's wrong (even though I know it's not that easy in the US with the insurance bullshit!)... Better to be safe than sorry!

Not nearly as threatening, but I had an exercise tolerance test at the hospital yesterday. Basically I was hooked up to an ECG machine/blood pressure thing while I walked on a treadmill to measure my heart rate and see how long I lasted before I started to get breathless (spoiler alert: it wasn't very long).

Anyway, before the test, they were looking at my resting heart rate and the doctor asked if it was normally that fast. Yes, it is, that's part of the condition . They looked up old ECG results to confirm that it was *~*normal*~* for me, which I suppose is fair enough. I don't think it's that much faster than a regular heart, but enough to the point where it's noticeable to doctors/nurses, I guess. Also it could've been a bit faster than normal because of the impending doom that it registers exercise as :fear:. A treadmill on the lowest speed is still far too fast for me to walk, which is fun.

Thanks guys! I'm eager for it to be next week to have my surgery. I'm nervous but I want it over with.

@starra That doesn't sound fun at all. I probably would have been out of breath pretty fast if I had to do that, I get winded sometimes walking up a flight of stairs because of my asthma.

erin: Good luck with your surgery and recovery! I'm sure everything will go well.

My mom had a partial hysterectomy when I was younger, because of fibroid tumors. I don't remember it very well, but she tells me she was bleeding for 2-3 weeks out of the month before they finally took care of it.

it's beginning to look rather expensive. And I'll take it. **reaches around in pocket for 3 or 4 million dollars' worth of loose change**
