A friend is from Southern Florida so his family is all there, and another close friend is currently in Puerto Rico and his flight will probably be canceled tomorrow. I'm hoping things won't be too bad. :(

We're worried about Irma here as well, though some members of my family somehow seem confident we'll just get unusually strong rains. All it will take is a slight turn in trajectory for it to come in over us so we're still going to need to prep as much as we can just in case.

Good luck Moh, be safe!

It looks like whatever path it takes, it's going to hit (and is already hitting) a lot of people very, very hard!

You know it's a big storm when they show the satellite image and the entire island of st.martin is in the eye of the storm.

The interstates are crazy. They're waiving all the charges on every tollway.
We have plenty of water, which is good, cause everyone's sold out by now. Same with canned goods.
I don't know how the rain will affect us, but the wind gusts are supposed to be almost 100 MPH by late Sunday night/early Monday morning.

I think we'll be okay here, but we know a lot of people in south Florida, and they're supposed to get the brunt of it.

It seems pretty damn scary. The pictures of destruction on the Caribbean islands (such as Barbuda) are... pretty awful. I definitely feel for everyone affected, especially on those tiny islands where you have a 0% chance of even trying to get away...

A lot of those pics from the Caribbean looked like a bomb went off. And it looks like Jose is gonna hit the same islands. :(

An updated track from the Euro model shows Irma going up through the middle of the state. Nice.
I wish we had discussed a plan this time last week. Trying to talk about it with only a few days til landfall is causing a lot of frustration.

Thankfully or not, Jose is starting to veer off in the Atlantic. It's also a much weaker storm. Ive Ben way too invested in these storms. I check the National Hurricane website at least five times a day for updates. I love that website because it gives you some good maps and a decent timeline.

Stay safe and good luck. I've got some relatives down in Florida and they are going up north to stay with some friends till the storm passes.

Shoujo Q, I hope your relatives had an easy time getting out. It took us 7 hours just to get to I-10 when it normally takes about 4 hours.

It's 1:33AM CDT. Getting close to Marianna, FL. Still haven't found a hotel for the night. Every place I check is booked solid, even worse when you have a dog in tow.

We kinda ended up sleeping in our cars for a few hours in a Wal-Mart parking lot. A lot of people were out there doing that same thing, especially at the rest areas along I-10.

Plan was initially to go to north Alabama. Hadn't even made it out of central Florida before the person kinda flaked out on us. [insert eyeroll emoji here]

So now we're in Mississippi cause my cousin (that I'd never even met til now) said we were welcome to stay here. They're kinda the only family members that offered, too.

I found out they actually called for mandatory evacuation in my neighborhood. I guess that was Friday evening or yesterday? But the little resort down there is still open with employees and guests.
I want this stupid hurricane to hurry up so I can find out if our house is flooded or not, lol. I've been stressed out about it.

Sooo I had an MRI on my heart last week and got the results today. The valve/conduit that they replaced last time (back when I was 12!) is more dilated/leakier than it was when I last had an MRI 3-4 years ago. They've sent the scans over to my surgeon (who did the last surgery) to see what the best thing to do is. She's holding a clinic a city near where I live next month so I'll be seeing her then and we can discuss things.

It could just be that I'll need to be monitored closer. But I wouldn't be surprised if they told me I need surgery within the next 5 years. It's been 11 (almost 12) and at the time they said it would last roughly 10 years, which it has. Surprisingly, considering I haven't been taking very good care of it .
